On January 19, 2010 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia, held a meeting with YB. Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, where they discussed the current stage and perspectives of cooperation between two countries in the sphere of education.

The Ambassador of Ukraine underlined that education is among the promising directions of the bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Malaysia. There are about 600 students from Malaysia currently studying in Ukraine, that already has a long history of teaching students from that country. In this regard it was emphasized on the necessity of accreditation of the Ukrainian universities in Malaysia, which would facilitate the cooperation. The Ukrainian Ambassador proposed also to consider a possibility of establishment of the direct ties between interested universities of both countries.

YB. Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin from his side confirmed that taking into account the remaining high demand for higher education in Malaysia there are broad possibilities for cooperation between Ukraine and Malaysia in the sphere of education. In this context the counterparts agreed on the necessity to finalize the draft Memorandum of Understanding in the Sphere of Education. The above mentioned Memorandum contains a provision on the establishment of the Joint High Level Working Group, which will facilitate the bilateral cooperation in the sphere of education.
