1. Establishment of diplomatic relations: September 27, 2003

2. Political Cooperation

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2000-2001, Ukraine made a significant contribution to supporting the movement towards the independence of Timor-Leste and establishing peace in this country and establishing a UN presence there. By the end of 2012, 12 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine were part of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT). The presence of Ukrainian personnel in the UNMIT became a significant positive factor in the development of bilateral relations between the two states.

Since the beginning of the russian aggression against Ukraine, Timor-Leste has consistently supported all United Nations resolutions condemning the aggressor. Timor-Leste has taken steps to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, with a decision made to transfer 1.5 million US dollars in humanitarian aid through the United Nations World Food Programme.

On the 11th special session of the UN General Assembly, Timor-Leste supported the UN General Assembly resolutions of March 2, 2022 and March 24, 2022 on the condemnation of Russian aggression, and also supported the termination of Russia's membership in the UN Human Rights Council.

On March 28, 2022, the Parliament of Timor-Leste unanimously approved Resolution No. 89A/V(4) on full support for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.

During a special session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on April 8, 2022, Timor-Leste, holding observer status, joined an open letter from FAO Council members condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine and calling for an immediate cessation of military actions on Ukrainian territory.

On February 23, 2023, Timor-Leste, among the 141 UN member states, supported the UN General Assembly resolution "Principles of the United Nations Charter underlying an all-encompassing, just, and sustainable peace in Ukraine" (A/ES-11/L.7).

3. Trade and economic relations

Trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste is extremely sporadic and limited in nature.

In 2021, based on data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the total value of external trade operations amounted to 7.61 US dollars, specifically in products made of black metals.

In 2022, Ukraine ranked 42nd in terms of the volume of imports to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. The imports from Ukraine in 2022 amounted to 101.00 US dollars and primarily consisted of machinery and apparatus.

There is no significant investment cooperation between the two countries.
