On the 10-11th of April 2012 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Malaysia Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi upon the invitation of the state administration participated in the 12-th “International Convention of Melaka twin cities”, which took place in the City of Melaka. Within the framework of the forum the participants exchanged their views on improvement of the readiness of the competent authorities to carry out effective measures in order to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, especially floods, and to reduce risk. The Conference was attended by nearly 500 representatives of governmental and local authorities, representatives of scientific circles, international organizations, parliamentarians and diplomats accredited in Malaysia from more than 20 countries.

In particular, the possibilities of strengthening of the international cooperation aimed at unifying the efforts of the international community and countries that at this stage of their development are not able to provide the effective response to the natural disasters were discussed. In his intervention during the conference the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia informed the participants about the systematic measures taken by the Government of Ukraine in order to mitigate the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster.

During the conference there was held the meeting of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia with the Chief Minister of the State of Melaka, during which the discussion regarding the establishment of partnership relations between this state and the Odessa region was continued. The issue of the Chief Minister’s visit to Odessa in the second half of this year was discussed separately.
