On January 26, 2010 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia, held a meeting with Dato Mohd Khalid Harun, the President of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), where they discussed the current stage and perspectives of cooperation between two countries in tourism.

The Ambassador of Ukraine stated that today the tourism sphere as a direction of cooperation between two countries is at the beginning stage of the development. Currently about 3000 Ukrainian tourists visit Malaysia yearly, while about 300 Malaysian citizens travel to Ukraine every year mostly for business and private matters. At the same time, taking into account the broad possibilities of tourism sectors of Ukraine and Malaysia there is huge potential for further broadening of tourist flows between two countries.

In this context, the counterparts underlined the need for the establishment of direct ties between prominent tourist agents of both countries and agreed to consider a possibility to organize an exchange of visits of the interested tour operators.

The Ukrainian Ambassador briefed Dato Mohd Khalid Harun on the existing capabilities in Ukraine on the acceptance of foreign tourists and informed on the growing number of Ukrainians who visit foreign countries including those of Asia-Pacific region. H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi stressed also on the broad perspectives for the development of the tourism sector in Ukraine considering the UEFA football championship hosted by this country in 2012.
