On October 23, 2014, the Public Hearing with regard to the Safeguard investigation on Imports of Hot Rolled Steel Plate into Malaysia, including Ukrainian, took part in the premises of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia.

At Hearing the Ambassador Ihor Humennyi presented position of the Ukraine side regarding this issue that was prepared by the Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine.

The representatives of foreign associations, local trade associations and manufacturers, as well as, the embassies of Japan, India, Indonesia and Republic of Korea, importers and exporters of hot rolled steel plate were also present at the Hearing. Altogether, at the Public Hearing 26 presentations were delivered to the members of the Investigation Commission, that contained strong arguments against implication of the safeguard measures in this case, since they will be harmful, first of all, to the Malaysian manufacturers of export products, and to the enterprises that to a large extent use hot rolled steel plate, in particular shipbuilding, automotive, construction and oil and gas industries.

After all the reports were delivered, the Head of the Commission, said that the implementation of the restrictive measures requested by Petitioner, would require detailed study, and noted that all the opinions expressed would be taken into consideration during the work of this body.
