On June 4, 2012 the “World Gas Conference 2012” was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur. Over 4500 of representatives of oil & gas companies (state as well as private) from 86 countries are taking part at the event, including Ukraine. The delegation of our country is headed by Mr Vadym P. Chuprun, the Deputy Head of the NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine”.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak, the President of the International Gas Union Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim and the President of the "Petronas" company Dato' Shamsul Azhar Abbas. They emphasized that within the conditions of the global economy development and the increase of the world's population the usage of natural gas is the most promising source of energy that will ensure progress of mankind. According to the expectations of experts, by 2050 the share of gas, which now stands at 1/5 part of the total energy balance of the world will rise to 1/3. In this context it is important that natural gas usage will reduce emissions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. It was also mentioned that the youth participation in the development of the gas sector needs to be increased.
The conference continues to work until June 8, 2012 in the form of plenary sessions and the sessions of the working groups. Simultaneously with the conference the gas exhibition began its operation. Almost 2000 of gas companies presented their expositions. There is also the NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" pavillion at the exhibition which demonstrates the potential of our country's gas sector. It is expected that the exhibition will be visited by more than 10 000 of people. During the Conference the delegation of Ukraine has several negotiations to be hold with the partners from other countries and the Malaysian national oil and gas company "Petronas" among the others.
