On June 4, 2012 the 25th “World Gas Conference 2012” was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur. Over 4500 representatives of oil & gas companies (state as well as private) from 86 countries are taking part at the event, including Ukraine. The delegation of our country is headed by Mr. Vadym P.Chuprun, the Deputy Head of the NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine”. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Malaysia Mr. Ihor V.Humennyi is also participating in the work of the conference.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak, the President of the International Gas Union Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim and the President of the "Petronas" company Dato' Shamsul Azhar Abbas. They emphasized that in the framework of the global economic development and the increase of the world's population the usage of natural gas is the most promising source of energy that will ensure progress of mankind. According to the expectations of experts, by 2050 the share of gas, which now stands at 1/5 part of the total energy balance of the world will rise to 1/3. In this context it is important that natural gas usage will reduce emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. It was also mentioned that the youth participation in the development of the gas sector needs to be increased.
The conference continues to work until June 8, 2012 in the form of plenary sessions and the sessions of the working groups. Simultaneously with the conference the gas exhibition began its operation. Almost 2000 gas companies presented their expositions. There is also the NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" pavillion at the exhibition which demonstrates the potential of our country's gas sector. It is expected that the exhibition will be visited by more than 10 000 of people. During the Conference the delegation of Ukraine will hold a number of talks with the partners from other countries and the Malaysian national oil and gas company "Petronas".
