On November 17, 2011 the Ambassador of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Ihor Humennyi on the invitation of the largest and oldest university of Malaysia - University of Malaya, delivered a lecture at the Asia-Europe Institute. During the lecture the Ambassador informed about the history of Ukrainian statehood, the state of the internal political and economic situation in Ukraine, as well as main directions of its foreign policy.

Separately, Ambassador informed about the international cooperation of Ukraine with ASEAN countries and in more detail stopped on the status and prospects of bilateral relations with Malaysia. In particular, H.E. Mr. Ihor Humennyi noted that Ukraine and Malaysia will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in March 2012. He also provided detailed information on the development of Ukrainian-Malaysian political dialogue and trade and economic cooperation. In this context, the Ambassador stressed that Ukraine is Malaysia's largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe. In this regard, trade and economic relations is a priority and the most promising direction of the Ukrainian-Malaysian cooperation. The main mechanisms in order to facilitate the cooperation in this sphere were given by the Ambassador. In addition, H.E. Mr. Ihor Humennyi noted the existing opportunities for the development of cooperation in education and tourism.

The lecture of the Ambassador attracted high interest of the participants, including students, teachers of the University of Malaya, as well as the representatives of other educational institutions of Malaysia and the diplomatic corps in this country. An active questions-answers session took place after the lecture, during which the Ambassador provided more detailed information on European integration of Ukraine and its relations with neighboring countries, as well as basic steps that are planned by the Embassy of Ukraine in the nearest future to foster bilateral relations of Ukraine and Malaysia.
