During the visit to Sarawak on 2 May, 2012 the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia H.E. Mr. Ihor Humennyi was received by the Chief Minister of this State YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. The State of Sarawak is the biggest by its territory unit of Malaysia with the surface which exceeds the total size of the continental part of this country. During the talks with the Ambassador YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud stressed the importance of Sarawak in the economic potential of Malaysia as well as its prominent role for integral unity of this country. There was exchange of views on the ways for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Sarawak, primarily in energy and manufacturing sectors, i.e. in the production of the energy equipment, as well as agriculture, since this state is one of the leading producers of the palm oil in Malaysia. The interlocutors agreed on the necessity to develop collaboration between the local economic structures and the Ukrainian enterprises. The possibilities for the development of cooperation in the sphere of education with Sarawak, in particular in medical sciences, have also been discussed.

As a result of the meeting both sides agreed to maintain the direct contacts with the view to establish and carry out specific economic projects.
