On May 16, 2011 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Malaysia met the prominent Malaysian politician, the former Prime-minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Muhamad.
The counterparts discussed the current bilateral relations in politic and economic spheres in particularly the perspectives of cooperation in aviation, shipbuilding, energy and tourist sectors. Special attention was devoted to the issues related to the involvement of Malaysian state company “Petronas” to the development of oil resources in the deep waters of the Ukrainian Black Sea shelf area, as well as, the supply of Ukrainian power generating equipment to Malaysia.
Tun Dr. Mahathir Muhammad said that in order to promote closer bilateral relations in trade and economic fields, the parties should intensify bilateral contacts between business structures, including active participation in international exhibitions held in Ukraine and Malaysia. Ukraine should more present its possibilities in Malaysia.
It was also discussed possible financial participation of the Malaysian side in implementation of the Chernobyl projects, including non-governmental funds and organizations.
