On March 21, 2011 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia, held a meeting with Dato’ Ahmad Shabery bin Cheek Minister of Sports and Youth of Malaysia.

During the conversation the questions on the possibilities to develop the cooperation between two countries in the field of sports were discussed. The Ambassador of Ukraine stated that his country traditionally gives the proper attention to the issues of sports. Ukraine seats one of the leading places on these matters and is well known for the sport achievements of its citizens.

Taking into account the announced priority attention that will be given by the Government of Malaysia to the development of sports, the broad perspectives of the bilateral cooperation on the sport matters were highlighted at the meeting.

The Ambassador of Ukraine also congratulated the counterpart with the decision of the ASEAN Football Federation on the FAM’s bid to hold the final stage of the regional football championship Suzuki Cup in Malaysia together with Thailand. In this context, the Ambassador informed the counterpart that Ukraine together with Poland will also host the final stage of the European football championship the same year. H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi stated that in order to successfully host EURO-2012 the Government of Ukraine gives a significant importance to the development of sport and transport infrastructure, hotel business and tourism sector in the country.

The counterparts agreed to maintain contacts on the issues of the development of the bilateral cooperation in the field of sports.
