On February 22, 2011 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia, held a meeting with Dato’ Azzuddin Ahmad, the General Secretary of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The Ambassador of Ukraine congratulated the General Secretary with the recent decision of the ASEAN Football Federation on the FAM’s bid to hold the final stage of the regional football championship Suzuki Cup in Malaysia together with Thailand. In this context, the Ambassador informed the counterpart that Ukraine together with Poland will also host the final stage of the European football championship the same year.

H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi stated that in order to successfully host EURO-2012 the Government of Ukraine gives a significant importance to the development of sport and transport infrastructure, hotel business and tourism sector in the country. Taking into account a huge number of the football fans in Malaysia, the Ambassador expressed his hope on the broad participation of the Malaysians at the 2012 football events in Ukraine.

At the meeting the counterparts agreed to take joint measures in order to hold the EURO-2012 promotion campaign in Malaysia.
