On November 9, 2010 H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Malaysia, had a meeting with H.E. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Hj. Mulia, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, where Malaysian high-ranked official was briefed on the main directions of Ukrainian-Malaysian cooperation and its further perspectives including in trade and economic sphere.
Ukraine considers Malaysia as an important partner in South East Asia. “Ukraine had become the largest consumer of Malaysian palm oil in Central Europe. The bilateral cooperation on the peaceful use of outer space has been also developing actively”, Ukrainian Ambassador said.. “After the global financial crisis the trade cooperation between two countries had a stable tendency to growth during the year of 2010”, Ambassador added.
A prominent role played by the interparliamentary relations in intensifying of bilateral political dialog was highlighted during the meeting. It was pointed out that an important practical element in the development of the Ukrainian-Malaysian interparliamentary relations could become the cooperation between interested groups of parliamentarians from both sides. Possibilities of visits to Malaysia of H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Head of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, as well as of a group of interested Ukrainian parliamentarians were discussed at the meeting.
H.E. Mr. Ihor V. Humennyi also informed in details H.E. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Hj. Mulia on the development of political situation in Ukraine and the vote results of the local elections which took place on October 31 last.
