Ukraine is eyeing the approval of a visa waiver program with the Philippines that could open numerous opportunities on people-to-people contacts, as well as wider cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism and even in the defense and militaries of the two countries.
The program, which is now being reviewed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, will allow nationals from both countries more relaxed and convenient visa procedures.
“I was informed that the review is almost done and they (DFA) just have to finalize some procedures because I understand there are many agencies involved in the process. I’m hoping for an early Christmas present,” visiting Ukrainan Ambassador Olexander Nechytaylo told the Manila Bulletin in an exclusive interview over the weekend.
While awaiting the approval of the visa waiver program, Nechytaylo said they have already made it easier for Filipinos to apply for visa going to Ukraine by establishing a visa center in Manila.
Nechytaylo said that Ukraine is also looking forward to importing tropical fruits, particularly Philippine mango, to his country.
On the tourism aspect, Nechytaylo disclosed that the Philippines is a growing popular destination among Ukrainian tourists.
